CarLens

Terms of Use

Last updated: 26 September 2026
Effective date: 26 September 2026

These Terms of Use govern the use of the CarLens application ("CarLens", "the app" or "the service"), provided by Óliver Álvarez ("we", "us"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing or using CarLens you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the app.

These terms are complemented by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data is processed and how. Purchases made through the App Store are also governed by Apple terms.

2. What CarLens is

CarLens identifies cars from a photograph. With the photo you take or choose, the app tells you the make, model, generation and approximate years of the vehicle, along with an estimate of its market price.

You can save identified cars in a collection, mark them as favourites and complete a brand album. The collection and its photos are stored only on your device.

The first time you open the app we ask you four questions to personalise it, such as the type of cars you like or your favourite brand. Your answers are stored only on your device, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

To identify each photo, the app sends it to our server, which in turn sends it to an artificial intelligence provider, as described in the Privacy Policy.

3. Minimum age

You must be at least 14 to use CarLens.

The first time you open the app we ask for your age range. If you indicate that you are under 14, you will not be able to use it.

If you are a minor under the law of your country, you may only use the app with the authorisation of your parent or legal guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for the use you make of it, including purchases. We recommend that families use Apple parental controls to manage in-app purchases.

4. Your account

You need an account to identify cars, created with an email address and a password. Without an account you can browse the app, but not identify.

Your collection and its photos live on your device, not in your account: they are not synchronised across devices, you do not get them back by signing in on another phone, and they stay there if you sign out or delete your account.

5. Free use

Each account includes 1 free identification, so that you can try the service before deciding whether to subscribe.

6. Subscriptions and payments

CarLens may offer subscription plans, with periods and prices shown in the app and in the App Store before you confirm the purchase. While they are not available, the app does not allow you to buy anything and use is limited to what is described in the previous section.

When subscriptions are available, the following will apply:

reportaproblem.apple.com

7. Free trial

CarLens may offer, at certain times and on certain plans, a free trial period, but one is not always available. When one is offered, the conditions in this section apply, and before it starts you will see in the app and in the App Store how long it lasts, which plan it applies to and what price will be charged afterwards.

8. Usage limits

With an active subscription, whichever the plan, CarLens includes up to 150 identifications per calendar month, more than enough for any personal use. This fair use limit exists to keep the service available for everyone and to prevent abuse. As with free use, an identification only counts when the app recognises a car in your photo.

The count is kept on our server and is tied to your account: reinstalling the app or changing phone does not reset it. It resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00, Spanish mainland time. If you reach the limit, you will not be able to make more identifications until then, but your subscription stays active, and the app tells you the date from which you can identify cars again.

In addition, with or without a plan, you can send up to 40 photos for identification per day. Here every photo counts, whether or not a car is recognised, because each one is analysed. The count resets every day at 00:00 UTC. If you reach it, the app tells you and you can try again the next day; it does not use up monthly identifications or free use.

We may also apply technical limits for security reasons, such as a maximum number of consecutive requests, to protect the service.

9. Acceptable use

You agree to use CarLens lawfully and in good faith. In particular, you may not:

10. Your photos

The photos you send remain yours. We acquire no rights over them.

By sending a photo you grant us only the licence needed to process it and return the result: a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence limited to that purpose, which includes sending it to the providers involved in the identification and which ends when the process is complete. We do not store your photos on our servers or use them for any other purpose, such as advertising or training models.

You are responsible for having the right to use the photos you send. We recommend framing the car and avoiding other people or number plates in the shot.

11. Nature of the results

The identifications and prices shown by CarLens are estimates generated automatically by artificial intelligence models from a single image. They are not valuations, expert appraisals, technical reports or professional advice of any kind.

They may contain errors. The app may be wrong about the make, model, generation or year, and the estimated price may be far from the actual value of the vehicle. The confidence level shown is also an estimate, and does not guarantee that the result is correct.

The price is an approximate reference for the Spanish second-hand vehicle market, calculated in euros; in other currencies it is shown converted using European Central Bank exchange rates. It does not take into account the specific condition of the vehicle, its mileage, its equipment, its history or local market conditions.

For that reason, the results must not be used as a basis for buying, selling, financing, insuring or valuing a vehicle, or for any legal or administrative procedure. For those decisions, turn to qualified professionals and official sources.

12. Intellectual property and trade marks

The app, its design, its code, its texts and its graphic elements belong to us or are used under licence, and are protected by intellectual and industrial property laws.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use CarLens on Apple devices that you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes, in accordance with these terms and the App Store usage rules.

The names, trade marks and logos of car manufacturers that appear in the app belong to their respective owners. We show them solely for identification purposes, to indicate the make of a car and in the brand album, and their presence does not imply any association, sponsorship or endorsement by those manufacturers. CarLens is not affiliated with any manufacturer.

13. Availability and changes to the service

We work to keep CarLens running continuously, but we cannot guarantee it: the service depends on your internet connection and on external providers, and may be interrupted by maintenance, technical failures or causes beyond our control.

We may improve, modify or withdraw features of the app. If a change significantly reduces what your subscription offers, we will give you reasonable notice and you will be able to cancel it.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example because of changes to the app or to the law. The date of the last update appears at the top. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the app before they take effect. If you continue using CarLens afterwards, we will understand that you accept them; if you do not agree, you can stop using the app and cancel your subscription.

15. Suspension and closing your account

You can stop using CarLens at any time. You can sign out, delete your account from Settings, under Account, and uninstall the app. If you have a subscription, remember to cancel it as well in your Apple Account settings: deleting your CarLens account does not cancel it.

When you delete your account, your email address, your password, your name and your free use counter are removed from our server. Your collection, its photos and your profile picture remain on the device until you delete the app.

We may suspend or limit your access to the service, proportionately, if you breach these terms, in particular the acceptable use rules or the usage limits, or where it is necessary to protect the service, other users or third parties. If the breach is serious or repeated, we may close the account; we will tell you unless the law prevents us from doing so.

Clauses that by their nature must continue to apply after termination, such as those on intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability and governing law, will remain in force.

16. Disclaimer of warranties

To the extent permitted by law, CarLens is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind as to the accuracy of the results, their fitness for a particular purpose or the uninterrupted operation of the service.

None of the above limits the warranties and rights the law grants you as a consumer and that cannot be excluded, such as the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services.

17. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

Except in the cases set out in the following paragraph, our total liability to you for any claim relating to CarLens will not exceed the amount you have paid for the subscription in the twelve months before the event giving rise to it.

These limitations do not apply to damages caused by wilful misconduct or gross negligence, to death or personal injury caused by negligence, or to any other case in which the law does not allow liability to be limited or excluded, and they leave intact the rights granted to you by consumer protection law.

18. Apple-related terms

If you downloaded CarLens from the App Store, the following also applies:

19. Governing law and consumer rights

These terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any dispute will be submitted to the courts of Spain.

If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection granted by the mandatory rules of the country in which you reside, and you may bring your claim before the courts of your domicile.

As a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom you generally have fourteen days to withdraw from a distance contract. For digital content supplied immediately, that right is lost once supply has begun with your express consent and your acknowledgement that you lose it, which is what happens when you download a subscription and start using it.

In any case, it is Apple that sells the subscription: withdrawal and refunds are requested from Apple, under its terms, which recognise the rights of consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

If you have a complaint, write to us first: that is usually where it gets resolved. We are not signed up to any consumer arbitration board or any other alternative dispute resolution body, so we cannot refer you to one. You can, however, take your complaint to the consumer authorities of your place of residence.

The European online dispute resolution platform stopped operating on 20 July 2025, when Regulation (EU) No 524/2013 was repealed. In its place, the European Commission keeps the list of notified alternative dispute resolution bodies for each country, and if you bought from another country in the European Union, Iceland or Norway, the European Consumer Centre in your country gives you information and advice free of charge (the ECC-Net network).
